Soooo . . . I’m heading out for my first trail run of the season tomorrow. I’d planned to go last Friday BUT the rain was so bad I knew the trails would be a mess. So, I’m going tomorrow to a trail not far from home, and my plan is five miles. My hope: no bugs, not too much water, and a nice quiet time spent in the woods!
I haven’t been on a trail run since last winter. Florida gets HOT in the summer, and muggy, and buggy; and summer is not yet over here, even though it may be coming to an end around the rest of the country. I’m hoping for some shade on the trails, since there’s not much in my neighborhood. In other news . . .
I was stoked to be selected to check out Stunt Puppy’s Go Dog Glo (TM) Dry Collar (TM) – and as you can see, so was Otis!!
This collar is noted to be both waterproof and stinkproof, and along with those great assets it also is reflective: this means when Otis goes with me on my runs, the cars can see him coming. Good news since I’m not the greatest about wearing reflective clothing. (In my defense, my early AM runs are around my neighborhood and I run in the street without headphones, so I always get on the sidewalk when traffic comes – which isn’t often at that hour.)
I’ll report back on the collar over the next few weeks, but for now it is a huge hit! He loved it, and I love the fact that it doesn’t smell! All the other collars we’ve had ended up stinking horribly. They last about four months and then I purchase a new one. So far so good! Change of Plans
So life has a way of happening when you have made other plans, and that is how my running and racing schedule often goes! I plan to do the November 19 X Country Marathon; however, I just found out my daughter may be involved in a soccer tournament that weekend. Soooo this means I needed to find something that was near that time and could be a replacement race if I’m otherwise involved.
I did some research and found the Space Coast Marathon is the weekend after, the 26th; and it is actually a race I would LOVE to run! So, I’m putting that on the back burner.
What do you do when your schedule gets changed after you’ve had your heart set on a race? Trying not to be down about it; I love the shirt and I bet the atmosphere at the Space Coast is great; but a trail run near home? That’s where my heart is right now!
Enjoy your sole filled journeys!
